Prep Boxers (Girls and Boys) – minimum age 8, using the actual birth date, maximum age 14.
The Prep Boxing Program consists of three age divisions.
1. PeeWee Division, ages 8, 9, and 10 years.
2. Bantam Division, ages 11 – 12 years.
3. Intermediate Division, ages 13 – 14 years.
These are the athletes developmental, and most delicate years. The number one priority of ABC Boxing is to ensure that are team members practice safe training methods. This group of athletes will be closely monitored throughout all training sessions. One hour of high intensity boxing training is sufficient for anyone in this program to improve their fitness and skill level. Our number one goal is the safety of our athletes. Our primary objective is to develop highly skilled boxers.
Boxers between the ages of 15 and 16 are categorized as Junior Boxers. Training for this group of athletes is intense and physically demanding. We provide guidance for a healthy diet to go along with an intense running program that is necessary for success in this division. Commitment from the athlete is essential to achieving positive results in this most competitive category.
Boxers between the ages of 17 and 18 are categorized as Youth Boxers. This is a highly competitive age category. Many athletes in the category have extensive competition experience. The highest level athletes compete internationally, working for an invitation to the Olympic Trials. Our programming is designed to ensure that are athletes are properly prepared for success.
Boxers between the ages 19 to 40 are categorized as Elite Boxers. Boxers ages 35 to 40 shall declare Elite, Masters or both.
Elite Boxers are the strongest, most competitive group of athletes. It is not unusual for an athlete in this category to have more than one hundred bouts. Athletes in the category are normally in the planning stages of a professional boxing career. Training becomes a full time adventure, and the athlete has the highest commitment for success.
Men and women Boxers ages 41 and above are categorized as Masters Boxers. Boxers ages 35 to 40 shall declare age classification, Elite or Master, or both each year upon registration. Boxers in this age category are limited to three round bouts between one and two minutes in duration. Athletes in this category are fit, and ready to withstand the physical demand of a boxing match; however, they normally are past the physical potential to compete with younger Elite Boxers.
